My principal area of research is in marine bioacoustics & the effects of anthropogenic disturbance on cetaceans. Projects that I’m involved with is in species biodiversity & abundance, the role of acoustics in cetacean social organisation, geographic variation in vocal repertoires & the effects of human-induced disturbance on the vocal & non-vocal behaviour of cetaceans. I have been working with marine mammals since 1990 & have over 20,000 hours of field research experience working with these ‘charismatic megafauna’! My research has taken me to Hawaii, Bahamas, the Pacific North West & Canada. In Australia, our research is based from the Coral Sea to Jervis Bay & as far south as the Sapphire Coast, including areas off Narooma, Merimbula & Eden .

Another passion is education. Educating people about these majestic animals & the environment in which they live. The MMR team regularly presents to the general public to raise awareness for the conversation of whales & dolphins inhabiting Australian waters.

My area of primary interest is the conservation of all marine species and their environment. I have a particular interest in marine mammals and the challenges they face to survive.
I also have a strong interest in cetacean strandings and how human intervention may assist animals at these events.
My main point of focus now is continuing my work of the Sapphire Coast in New South Wales, as well as working on a killer whale fin identification database. In addition to this I hope to be looking into investigating anthropogenic threats (human impacts) to marine wildlife, including entanglement, collisions, depredation, pollution and hunting.

I have a strong passion for the environment and the oceans that surround it.
Working along side of researchers, my main objective is documenting their field expeditions & field trips. Photographing & filming whales & dolphins and the environment that they inhabit in our oceans are my passion.

I have been working alongside members of the MMR team since 2001 & am involved in coordinating projects & events to raise awareness of the conversation of our whales & dolphins.
